This document confirms compliance with EN 62471, the international safety standard that evaluates the photobiological hazards of optical radiation emitted by light sources, including ultraviolet (UV), visible, and infrared (IR) light.
The standard provides guidelines for classifying light sources based on their emission levels and defines exposure limits to prevent injury, ensuring that products are safe for human eyes and skin during normal use.
We are please to report that all standard photoelectric sensors from Carlo Gavazzi are classified within the Risk Group 0, the lowest risk category, and are therefore completely exempt from photobiological hazards.
This new safety document is available in our product certification section.
The standard defines four risk groups:
- Risk Group 0 (Exempt - No Hazard):
The lamp or sensor presents no photobiological risk under standard exposure conditions.
- Risk Group 1 (Low Hazard):
No risk is present under normal usage by individuals with standard behavior.
- Risk Group 2 (Moderate Hazard):
Risk is mitigated by natural aversion responses to bright light or thermal discomfort.
- Risk Group 3 (High Hazard):
The light source may pose a risk even with short-term or accidental exposure.
By complying with EN 62471, Carlo Gavazzi ensures that its products meet the highest standards of safety, reinforcing our ongoing commitment to health protection and regulatory compliance.
